Wolfe County Schools Test to Stay Guidance DRAFT

GUIDANCE FOR “TEST TO STAY” STRATEGY FOR K-12 SCHOOLS

In-person instruction for K-12 students is a priority. The purpose of this document is to provide guidance on an optional strategy for managing COVID-19 exposures in the school setting. CDC guidelines emphasize the implementation of layered prevention strategies to protect students, teachers, and staff which includes isolation of persons who test positive for COVID-19 as well as contact tracing and quarantine of unvaccinated contacts. This document outlines considerations for a “test to stay” strategy to allow unvaccinated individuals who are exposed to COVID-19 at school to continue with in-person instruction with repeated negative COVID-19 test results. This program is intended for continuity of education, not for continued participation in athletic programs or extracurricular activities.

Wolfe County Schools featured in Article: Innovative mountain K-12 school districts were ahead of the curve for successful at-home learning Rural Eastern Kentucky school districts have utilized the innovative learning practices and digital teaching platforms they have used for years to jump-start the “Non-Traditional Instruction” (NTI) programming necessary when school in-person classes were forced to shut down in mid-March because of COVI19. BUS/WALKER PASS POLICY

Wolfe County Middle School will no longer be accepting bus or walker pass requests over the phone.  In order to make sure that parents/guardians are the ones requesting the bus pass, we are enforcing this new policy. If a student is getting home some way other than their normal method, a parent/guardian must come in to the front office.  Again, WE WILL NOT ACCEPT BUS/WALKER PASS REQUESTS BY PHONE.  We understand this may be an inconvenience, but the safety of our students is our top priority.

Protect Yourself and Your Family From Mosquitoes Around Your Home

The Wolfe County Health Department advises the public to begin preparing for summer mosquito season by ridding their environments of potential mosquito breeding areas.  Mosquitoes are a common insect in Kentucky, particularly in the warmer months.  Besides being a nuisance, some mosquitoes are known to carry diseases.  You should take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones from potential exposures by reducing possible breeding locations in and around your home.

WCMS REWARDS TRIP GUIDELINES

Each year we take a rewards trip to Washington DC with 46 8th grade students and an after-school party including a trip to the bowling alley and movie theater in Mt. Sterling for both 7th and 8th graders.  We try to use these incentives to promote and encourage successful habits at school in the areas of 1)grades, 2)test scores, 3)attendance, and 4)behavior. We value each of those four areas, and students earn points in each. To see the scoring guidelines for each area, please see THIS document.

***Please note the rewards trip to Washington DC is NOT the 8th Grade Class Trip. That trip is to Kings Island and takes place later in the year.

ALTERNATE SNOW SCHEDULE 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR

In order to reduce missed school days due to icy side roads we are implementing the following Alternate Snow Schedule. During winter weather some roads may remain unsafe for bus traffic. Under this schedule our buses would run on the main black top roads or all roads that are clear of snow and ice. We ask that parents of the students on the roads listed below bring their children out to the cleared roads which will be the point for pick up and drop off. Contact your driver for pickup times.  The following roads fall within the Alternate Snow Plan. For further information, call the Central Office at 668-8002.
