LOCAL HISTORY AT CAMPTON ELEMENTARY
A guest speaker recently came to Campton Elementary to speak to the fourth and sixth grade. Allen Booth came to speak about the events surrounding the last hanging in Wolfe County. The two classes had been studying the events as part of various activities and assignments related to local history. Mr. Booth related the events that surrounded the hanging of James Buchanan and the subsequent discovery many years later that Mr. Buchanan was innocent of the crimes for which he was executed. Mr. Booth gave a very informative talk and the students had many questions about the events of the crime, the trial and the times in which the events happened. A special thanks to Mr. Booth for bringing a very interesting piece of Wolfe County history to our students.
